FAQs

Do I need a consultation to begin the detox?

No, this is a do it yourself general cleanse that you do on your own.  All the instructions are given in the booklet you will receive and in this FAQ.

How do I make the shakes?

Dr. Karuna’s favorite is: 1 cup of Hemp milk with 1 cup of organic blueberries. Other recipes can be found in your booklet.

When do I take the supplements?

1 supplement packet after each shake.

How can I improve the taste?

Add frozen berries or fresh pear.

How much water should I drink during the cleanse?

Drink one half oz per pound of body weight each day during the entire 14-day cleanse. This will help move the toxins out of your body and will prevent their reabsorption.

Is it okay to maintain my exercise routine?

Yes, but you must be careful not to overexert yourself.  Incorporate relaxation and yoga techniques into your routine.

Should I continue to take supplements during the detox?

The cleanse contains many vitamins and other nutrients to help meet your daily requirements. You may suspend natural supplements during the detox if your health care practitioner agrees, but continue to take any medically prescribed pharmaceuticals. Ask your health care practitioner if you have any specific questions.

What about organic produce?

It is suggested to be 100% organic. If this is not possible, fruits and vegetables that are consistently the most contaminated with pesticides should be purchased organic. These include:

Celery, Apples, Bell Peppers, Kale/Collard Greens, Peaches, Blueberries, Spinach, Potatoes, Strawberries, Nectarines, Cherries, Grapes

Fruits and vegetables that have the lowest levels of pesticides and are the safest choices for conventional grown produce include:

Onions, Avocado, Mangos, Cabbage, Sweet Peas, Asparagus, Pineapple, Kiwi, Eggplant, Watermelon, Grapefruit, Sweet Potato, Honeydew Melon.

How should I stop drinking coffee during the two weeks?

Cut back before the cleanse. Switch to organic coffee. If you can get yourself to 1 cup per day, see if you could cut it out completely. Substitute with organic green tea.

Is green tea allowed?

Yes, 1-2 cups of green tea per day is allowed, but do not start drinking any drink with caffeine if it hasn’t already been a part of your routine.

Will I get headaches?

Some people experience headaches during the first few day of their detox due to withdrawal from sugar and caffeine. Remember, the week prior to your detox you should decrease intake of these substances to minimize discomfort. The cleanse  will assist your body in detoxing out these substances as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Will it be uncomfortable?

There are differing opinions about the change in diet. This detox is designed to be easy to follow and will not leave you hungry. Remember, it is not a fast or a colon cleanse, which are very hard on your system. You will be eating plenty of food and the shakes are pleasant tasting. You may feel a slight withdrawal in the first few days if you are giving up a lot of caffeine or a lot of sugar.

Will I lose weight?

The detox program is not designed to be a weight loss program. However, many people lose weight during the course of their detox program. Some of the reasons for this weight loss include: lower than usual caloric intake due to having shakes for meals, taking sugar out of the diet, decreased consumption of allergenic foods such as wheat and dairy and release of toxins from fat stores.

Will I be in the bathroom all day?

It is very important to consume extra water while detoxifying to help flush out toxins. Therefore, most people urinate more often than usual on this program.

Will my bathroom habits be altered?

Most people will continue to experience normal bowel movements (1-3 per day) throughout the cleanse. However, if you are experiencing constipation there are a few things that you can do to help:

  • Drink two to four extra 8oz glasses of warm water when you feel constipated.
  •  Increase intake of fiber in your diet and reduce meat intake.

If constipation persists, consult your healthcare practitioner.

What’s a good snack?

Dr. Karuna’s favorite snack is an organic green apple, it has a lot of fiber and is not as sweet as other fruit.

Now what? What do you recommend after the cleanse?

You will have leftover cleanse – every Monday follow the cleanse until it’s completely used up. Keep your diet clean and look at the cleanse as an opportunity to ‘press refresh’. If you desire further cleansing or more in depth instruction, please contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Karuna.
